Are you confident that your drinking water is safe? Ever wonder if you should filter it?
These are vital questions that Environmentral Working Group’s (EWG) new drinking water research and searchable guide will help you answer. They are the only ones who have put together a nationwide database of drinking water test results. The information is so important — and unique — that The New York Times asked to use it in reporting its current series on what’s wrong with America’s drinking water.

A gluten-free flour that claims to have superior nutritional qualities to white rice, potato and corn flours, made with a blend of ancient grains.
Sufferers of celiac disease have to avoid all gluten in their diet, but diagnosis is not the only factor. Other sectors of the population, such as those who have self-diagnosed wheat or gluten intolerance or who believe gluten-free to be a healthier way of eating, are strong drivers of the gluten-free market.
But against this backdrop of popularity, there have been concerns that some gluten-free products on the market made with rice, corn and potato flour and xanthan or guar gum to improve texture have sub-optimal levels of essential nutrients.
ConAgra Mills set out to develop flour that has good nutritional properties by tapping its portfolio of naturally gluten-free ancient grains, like amaranth, quinoa, sorghum, millet and teff. The result is called Eagle Mills gluten-free all-purpose multigrain flour. Also containing tapioca starch, it can be used in products including pan bread, tortillas, muffins, snacks, coatings and extruded cereals.

Our moms have repeatedly told us when we were youngsters to always eat our green veggies. But according to recent research, certain compounds found in the tasty plants can help prevent liver cancer.
Chlorophyll and chlorophyllin, two water soluble green compounds found naturally occurring in most plants, may reduce the bioavailability of some known liver cancer causing toxins.

Researchers have discovered that drinking more than 5 servings of sugar sweetened cola a week prior to pregnancy appears to significantly elevate the risk of developing diabetes during pregnancy. No significant association was found with other sugar sweetened beverages or diet beverages.
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is one of the most common pregnancy complications. Women with GDM are at increased risk for complications and illness during pregnancy and delivery, as well as post-pregnancy type 2 diabetes. Children of mothers with GDM are at increased risk for obesity, glucose intolerance, and early onset diabetes. Vitamin D taken by the mother during pregnancy has also been found to drastically reduce the chance that the child will develop type I diabetes later in life.

With 3,480 pages of fine print, the Physicians’ Desk Reference (a.k.a. PDR) is not a quick read. That’s because it contains every iota of information on more than 4,000 prescription medications. Heck, the PDR is medication — a humongous sleeping pill.
Doctors count on this compendium to help them make smart prescribing decisions — in other words, to choose drugs that will solve their patients’ medical problems without creating new ones. Unfortunately, it seems some doctors rarely pull the PDR off the shelf. Or if they do crack it open, they don’t stay versed on emerging research that may suddenly make a once-trusted treatment one to avoid. Worst case: You swallow something that has no business being inside your body.
Of course, plenty of M.D.’s do know which prescription and over-the-counter drugs are duds, dangers, or both. So we asked them, “Which medications would you skip?” Their list is your second opinion. If you’re on any of these meds, talk to your doctor. Maybe he or she will finally open that big red book with all the dust on it.

Deserving Pets Vital Vitamins Testimonials
“This is one of the rare times I’ve sat down to write a letter of appreciation for a product. I have been doing rescue work with cats for almost 20 years and over the course of time have learned that building up a foster cat’s heath is a far better way to go than nursing him through an illness. An ounce of prevention is truly worth a pound of cure with rescued cats. Of course, cats are often picky so giving them any holistic products often turns them away from their food. Since I have been giving my foster cats Deserving Pets Vital Vitamins for Cats my adoptees have much fewer respiratory tract infections and digestive problems. One added benefit I did not expect was how much shinier and healthier they look after just a few weeks of being on the vitamin. All this makes it easier to find them the loving new homes they deserve. I want to thank you at Deserving Pets because many wonderful animals are benefiting from your vitamins.” -Andrea, Florida
