Doctors at the Institute for Progressive Medicine have extensive experience in helping people reduce or eliminate addictive and harmful drugs. It is our experience that people are over-treated with medications, particularly with psychiatric drugs. Drugs may be ineffective in improving the situations for which they are prescribed. They may actually aggravate problems, and create serious adverse reactions. Antidepressant medications increase episodes of falling, worsen osteoporosis, impair coordination, cause dry mouth leading to tooth decay, and in children and young adults may heighten the risk of suicide.
Antipsychotic drugs and certain antidepressants stimulate enormous weight gain leading to diabetes and heart disease. Especially in older patients, antipsychotic agents increase the risk of sudden cardiac death.
Recreational drugs and alcohol cause numerous health and social problems, leading to mental illness, crime, disruption of the family unit, physical disability, and loss of work.
